2 weeks old - Rory

Well it moves fast the second time around.  We had Rory's doctor's appt last week and she is growing like a weed.  She was 7lbs 9oz (40%), 21 1/4 inches tall (80%), and 13 1/4 head (40%).  She is your typical #2 baby which means all she does is eat and sleep which is great!  I am not sure if she is just easier or we are just better at this parenting gig, but the 2nd time around is much less stressful.  It also helps that I don't have Cason during the day.  That would be a challenge.  I have had the both of them by myself a few times for an hour or two here and there and when they are both awake it is quite the juggling.

We haven't been out much, mostly because the weather has been a little rainy and I am lazy and have been taking naps to catch up on sleep. I am also making sure to get this feeding thing down this time.  We have been very successful and soon will start to venture out.

Grinning like a gopher

Well to top off a busy week of taking care of a newborn, Cason has decided he is done with using diapers. After many tantrums and timeouts for refusal to be changed or put on a new diaper, we bought some pull-ups and underwear this week and headed down the potty training path. Great timing! So far it is going ok, some accidents, some success.

So our weekend is kind of a bust with frequent trips to the potty and taking care of a newborn who is turning out to be a great eater (which means all she does is eat, eat, and eat and then sleep).

Here are a few pictures of Cason when you ask him to "grin like a gopher" and of Rory snoozing away.

Rory Blythe Johnston's arrival

We welcomed Rory on her due date after approximately 17 hours of labor.  After a long Tuesday of work around the house, she started around 7:30pm giving me contractions.  Around 1am we decided it was time to make our way to the hospital.  Since my parents were in town, Cason slept soundly as we slipped out.  It was a long night, which included pacing the halls from 2:45am -4:00 to get her moving. Around 8 am I asked for an epidural and the labor continued to move slowly along.  Around 11:30 am they decided labor was to slow and wanted to give a small dosage of pitocin.  Steve left to go get some lunch as we thought it would still be awhile and I had the tv on watching the announcement of the new Pope.  Well 20 mins later I told the nurse I was in a lot of pain and she said "oh you are at 10 centimeters" we need to push.  So a quick call to Steve to get back was made and within minutes of his return the doctor arrived and 4 pushes later Rory was born.

Cason came to visit on Thursday and was a little hesitant as his memories of the hospital were not pleasant.  He quickly warmed up as Rory brought him presents which made his day.  He is getting used to her being around.

Tick tock, tick tock, still waiting

Well she is still not here yet.  I guess these two kiddos are going to be total opposites already.  Cason was early, and she it running up on her due date.  Here is a quick picture on my last day of work (last Friday) and the baby shower we had.  The tax department was very excited as we had a simple pizza lunch which was very welcomed.

Christmas pics in March

Christmas in March... well at least the pictures.  Here is our trip to So. Cal for the days after Christmas this past 2012 year.

Uncle Ryan and Cason - officially the favorite gift of the year - as he calls it "Ro-Ro Truck" aka garbage truck

the Choo-choo train was fun to watch, but Cason really wanted to play with it too...
